As part of the first California Welcome Center art festival, held last weekend in Yucca Valley, 60 artists submitted artwork for inclusion in the show. A panel of five professional artists (Bill Copeland, Ed Keesling, Michael McCall, Terry Lee Stone, and Marcella Swett) served as judges for the show, and chose six winning entries in five categories. John Henson of Yucca Valley won for mixed media; Mitch Miller of Joshua Tree won for photography; Jayne Schelden of Yucca Valley won for painting; and Vince Calanoc of Glendale won for his paperscape assemblage. Two winners were selected for jewelry: Louis Hernandez of Joshua Tree and Susan Priest of Running Springs. The winners will be featured artists in the welcome center’s gift shop for one year. Congratulations to all the winners.
