The hardworking cheerleaders at Twentynine Palms High School work very hard at their sport. ROP Broadcasting student, and cheerleader Madeline Samarin says, “That’s right, a sport”…
Is cheerleading a sport? According to Varsity.com, “Cheerleading meets ALL of the athletic specifications. To be qualified as a sport, “It must be a physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass. Stunting, Contesting, or competing against/with an opponent is required.” You know those competitions on ESPN? Those are national championships. Cheerleaders at Twentynine Palms High School put in two hours of practice every day plus an additional 30 minutes to an hour of practice on our own. Being a cheerleader all four years of high school I have learned how hard it is. This year’s cheer squad has put in many hours of work to prove we are indeed a sport. We will be competing later this year.
