There are many questions that people have on how to best protect themselves during the coronavirus outbreak. One commonly asked question is whether wearing a facemask will protect you. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the answer straight from the experts…
According to the World Health Organization, facemasks are only recommended for those who are caring for someone who has, or may have, contracted the coronavirus; or for those who are showing possible symptoms of the virus. Experts warn that facemasks are only effective when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning, using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and hot water. If you wear a face mask; first wash your hands thoroughly, make sure there are no gaps in the mask, avoid touching the mask while using it, and replace the mask when it becomes damp. Remove the mask by the straps, dispose in a closed bin, and clean your hands immediately. Never reuse a single-use mask.
