THE PRICE OF WATER FOR PIONEERTOWN AND PART OF MORONGO VALLEY IS GOING UP

Water rates for residents of Pioneertown and the Hacienda Heights section of Morongo Valley are about to go up, way up. It’s just one of the topics up for discussion when county supervisors meet in San Bernardino tomorrow. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has details …
Among the many items on the agenda is a public hearing on county water. It’s part of a series of increases the department is about to levy. Beginning 2017-18 through 2021-22, those in Pioneertown and a portion of Morongo Valley will pay more for water. The hikes follow a rate study concluded in January. For the 120 connections in Pioneertown, the monthly facilities charge for a ¾-inch meter will climb from the current $38, to $46 next year, to a whopping $57 in fiscal 2021-22. Consumption charges would increase in similar fashion. For 167 connections in the Hacienda Heights section of Morongo Valley, the monthly facilities charge for a ¾-inch meter will increase from the current $44, to $69 next year, to just over $104 in fiscal 2021-22. Tomorrow’s public hearing is on all county water fees and charges; the rate increases were already passed when fewer than 50 percent of ratepayers responded to a mail-in protest exercise. The higher rates will go into effect July 1.
