At one time in your life, you’ve surely been anxious or scared enough to say, “I think I’m having a heart attack.” The question is, would you really know if you were having a heart attack? Some heart attacks are sudden and intense, but most start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. During the month of February, we’ll be airing a series of stories about heart health. Managing editor Tami Roleff says to watch out for these symptoms that may indicate you’re having a heart attack…
There are nine symptoms that could signal you are having a heart attack. If you begin to experience these symptoms, seek help immediately.
Chest pain or discomfort
Chest pain that comes and goes and returns
Pain in shoulder, arm, back, neck, jaw or stomach
Lightheadedness or fainting
Sweating
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Nausea or vomiting
Pain in back or jaw
Some of these symptoms are more common for women than men, and not all people who have heart attacks experience the same symptoms or to the same degree. If you think you are having a heart attack, call 9-1-1 immediately for an ambulance to take you to the hospital. Do not try to drive yourself. Put your health first. Don’t ignore the signs, they could save your life.
