A long-awaited construction project in Joshua Tree National Park may be delayed due to funding issues. On June 19, 2020, park Superintendent David Smith announced on the Z107.7 Up Close Show that, since the park had not hired as many employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, that the Park had been able to allocate funds for renovations to its West entrance in Joshua Tree, the largest of the park’s list of projects, with ground breaking for the project scheduled for around December, 2021. However, Park Chief of Interpretations Jennifer Albrinck recently told Z107.7 that cost estimates received for the project require additional funding and that the park is hoping to be in the construction process by Summer or Fall of 2022.
