The High Desert’s High School Football Teams Face Off in “Battle of the Bell”

*** UPDATE, AFTER A SERIES OF ALTERCATIONS AT YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, THE GAME HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The locally legendary “Battle of the Bell” takes place tonight (October 28). If you’re not familiar with the “Battle,” it’s when the Morongo Basin’s two High School Varsity football teams face off on the gridiron. The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats are overall 2 to 7 this season, and they’ll be hosting the Yucca Valley High School Trojans, who are overall 7 to 1 this season. The winner of this cross-desert rivalry gets to keep coveted “Bell” as a monument to their victory, at least until next year’s game. The first “Battle of the Bell” was played in 1968, and since then, the Twentynine Palms Wildcats have had 34 wins and the Yucca Valley Trojans have had 19 wins.

The “Battle of the Bell” begins tonight at 7 p.m. at Twentynine Palms Junior High School.
