In response to the recent theft of a temporary, construction-related water meter that left Joshua Tree’s water district out almost $2,000, deposits and fees for such meters are about to go up, way up. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has details…
At tonight’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, the board is expected to revise charges associated with temporary water meters. The present $250 deposit is likely to be changed to the full cost of the three inch meter; a minimum of $2,100. And the fee for starting temporary service is expected to go from $30 to $90. The changes will bring the costs for such equipment and service more in line with costs to the district. The need for the changes made itself apparent following the recent theft of a temporary meter in which the district was left holding the bag. Tonight’s meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the district offices on Chollita Road in Joshua Tree.
