The City of Twentynine Palms had its annual temperature reading Tuesday night. Reporter David Haldane was there…
Twentynine Palms is doing just fine, thank you.
That was the gist of last night’s annual State of the City address by Mayor Dan Mintz. Among other things, he said, the city will soon add a bus stop chauffeuring visitors to Joshua Tree National Park, recently launched a new web site, has a balanced budget with a $10.9 million reserve and is enjoying low crime rates.
Other accomplishments include adding bike trails, seeing an increase in building permits, opening a new county-run fire department and being very close to starting Project Phoenix.
“We cannot waste today and we will not. We are planning for the future and addressing the challenges.”
In other actions, the Council appropriated $100,000 for outside contractor services related to Project Phoenix and approved funding for curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements as part of Project El Sol.
