Artist Sarah Witt has been inviting local diners to join her fearless culinary exploration of the Mojave Desert. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has your invitation to this evening’s potluck…
At the regular monthly themed dinner gathering led by artist Sarah Witt under the name Hi-Desert Test Kitchen, participants explore a different native ingredient each month. This month’s ingredient is Ephedra. Ephedra was once known by a common name considered very offensive to native peoples. That name thusly fell out of favor and was replaced with the name “Mormon Tea,” but as it turned out, that name also carried a connotation offensive to indigenous communities. For these reasons, we’re sticking with ephedra. Learn more about ephedra at sarahwitt.net. Then use it as an ingredient or bring a different special side dish to tonight’s Hi-Desert Test Kitchen potluck starting at 7 p.m. at the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center on Winters Road just east of Border.
