TENET HEALTHCARE WAY BEHIND IN OBLIGATION FOR IMPROVEMENTS AT HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER

The board of directors for the Morongo Basin Healthcare District will meet at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday, March 4). Among the items on the agenda is a request to extend the capital spending schedule to December of this year. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains what that means…

When Morongo Basin residents voted to lease Hi-Desert Medical Center to Tenet Healthcare in 2015, part of the agreement was that Tenet would commit to spending $32 million in the first three years of the lease for new capital improvement projects, information technology, and physician recruitment. At least one time extension has been granted so far, and Hi-Desert Medical Center CEO Karen Faulis told the board last month that most of the promised improvements should be completed by December 2021. Directors were not happy that a three-year timeline has been stretched to 6 ½ years. The public may participate in tonight’s meeting online.
