The Sunkissed Girls is a Joshua Tree rock based band composed of four childhood friends who now play local festivals. The group includes Sonora on drums, Vera on keyboards and bass, Nora on guitar and bass, and Kyra on vocals and bass. The 14 and 15-year-old musicians formed The Sunkissed Girls February 2025, after attending a concert together inspired them to start their own band.

“We started having rehearsals for fun, and then it became more serious…None of us played anything really. We were all very much beginners… We also all have very musical families, so they all helped us. We would not be here without our families.”

The Sunkissed Girls play a blend of original songs and covers at their live shows. Their inspirations span the decades, from iconic rock bands like Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, and Radiohead to modern indie acts including Mitski and Solya. The band also recently released their original debut single, Half-Wit.

“We started with one melody and then some lyrics that matched, and realized it was a cool storyline…A lot of our ideas come from life events, thoughts, or just experiences.”

After starting off playing shows at Frontier Cafe and the ARTTRAP, The Sunkissed Girls look forward to playing three festivals this fall. Following their debut at the Joshua Tree Music Festival this weekend, they will open for Desert Crows and  Hot Lava at the Water Festival in Desert Hot Springs, and are slated to perform at La Quinta’s 19th Annual Family Fun Festival in  November.

“…I love all the shows we get to play, the experiences playing at different venues, and the people we get to meet. We meet a lot of people who’ve been in the music industry before, and they tell us their story. It’s really cool…I really like when we all come together on a song, and we’re just playing together. I really like being able to express myself in ways that I probably couldn’t in words alongside my best friends. I would not want to do this with anyone else.”

The Sunkissed Girls make their Joshua Tree Music Festival debut this Friday night, playing from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. at the Cafe Stage.
