Many people might think it was only recently that women started getting tattoos. Ernest Figueroa says inked women have a long history in California…

From the upper-class women who started the tattoo craze to the working-class tattooed ladies who performed in circus sideshows, the exhibit “Tattooed and Tenacious: Inked Women in California’s History” puts the foremothers of modern tattooing in the spotlight. The Hi-Desert Nature Museum in Yucca Valley is holding a Zoom lecture Thursday, March 18, at 1 p.m., in which Amy Cohen will discuss the rich and surprising history of women and tattoos in California. Preregistration is required; see this story at z1077fm.com for the link to register.
