SWARMS OF BEES ATTACKING LOCAL RESIDENTS

Earlier, this week we reported at least three instances of local residents being attacked by bee swarms. Shortly after Z107.7 News aired the story we received another report of a bee attack in Joshua Tree. Mark Wire, an employee for G&K Propane, told us in an interview about his dangerous  encounter with a swarm of bees on Thursday morning. Assignment reporter Keith Bailey tells us what you should do if you are ever attacked…

Mark Wire said he ran for about block until Good Samaritans let him into their home to help escape from the bee attack. According to the San Bernardino County Public Health Services, Wire did the right thing by running. If you accidentally disturb a swarm of bees, run in a straight line and find shelter in a house, car, or under a blanket as soon as possible. Don’t swipe or try to kill the bees, as they will feel threatened and give off an alarm scent which will attract other bees and they’ll swarm and attack you. Following an attack, it is important to remove any stingers quickly and see a doctor if necessary.
