SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN YUCCA VALLEY FRIDAY

A house fire in Yucca Valley Friday afternoon is “suspicious in nature,” according to fire officials. County Fire Captain Darrell Feuerhahn said Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and Yucca Mesa fire fighters were called to the blaze at 4:11 p.m. The fire started in a debris pile of junk, weeds, lumber, and logs outside the west side of the home in the 55800 block of Yucca Trail, and spread into a bedroom through a window. However, Feuerhahn said an aggressive attack by firefighters prevented the fire from spreading further, and the blaze was under control a half hour later. He added the home suffered minor damage from the smoke and a burnt mattress on the floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

And in a related story, County fire fighters remind residents and visitors that all campfires, warming fires, and fires to burn trash require a permit. The permits are free. Drop by your local fire station to get a permit, and after you’ve received your permit, call to see if the burn permits have been suspended. Fire fighters also recommend that fire extinguishers and other fire prevention tools, such as hoses, be nearby in case the fire gets out of control.
