SUSPECTED RING OF IDENTITY THIEVES IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

Sheriff’s deputies and postal inspectors are investigating a suspected ring of identity thieves who were found with stolen mail, identification, and credit cards in Twentynine Palms. Just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, deputies determined that a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 74300 block of Maricopa Drive had license plates that didn’t belong to it. A records check found that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Deputies contacted the residents inside the home, Julie DaSilva, 33, Reyna Vasquez, 28, and Gilbert Gonzalez, 30. While inside the home, deputies saw what appeared to be stolen mail and credit cards, and contacted the U.S. Postal Inspector’s office. A search warrant was issued for the home and investigators returned about 8 a.m. Wednesday. Inside, they found stolen mail, stolen credit cards, stolen identification, and equipment to produce credit cards and key cards. The investigation is ongoing and deputies have forwarded the case to the federal prosecutors for review.
