SUSPECTED MARINE BASE PEEPING TOM FOUND TO HAVE EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL RECORD

A Colorado man convicted of being an accessory to murder 10 years ago was arrested in Twentynine Palms Monday for failing to register as a sex offender. About 12:30 Monday afternoon, deputies were called to the Twentynine Palms Marine base where Daniel Rachal, 28, had been allegedly looking in house windows. Deputies determined that Rachal was a sex offender. Daniel Rachal was arrested on suspicion of a sex offender registration violation, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. Deputies learned during his arrest that Rachal had recently been released from prison in Colorado for being an accessory to a 2007 murder in Grand Junction. He had also been arrested in Twentynine Palms in 2015 for giving a false name following a traffic stop and for violating the terms of his parole in Colorado. Following that arrest, a deputy in the Morongo Basin Jail rescued Rachal when he attempted to commit suicide in a cell. Rachal was subsequently extradited to Colorado where he was arrested again in 2016 on warrants for a sex offender registration violation and a parole violation.
