Suspected DUI driver arrested for child abuse after rollover in Yucca Valley

A rollover accident in Yucca Valley left one passenger injured, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and child abuse.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Friday (October 27), County Sheriff’s Deputies say they responded to the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Kickapoo Trail for a report of a single vehicle traffic accident. They said that the driver, of the car, identified as Genasea Portillo, a 21 year-old resident of Yucca Valley, lost control of the car, and the car rolled over into a ditch. 

Deputies report that one passenger of Portillo’s car, identified as 38 year-old woman from Yucca Valley was ejected from the vehicle, and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries. Also in the car was a 3 year-old child, who did not suffer from any injuries.

Deputies say that Portillo, whom they described as “responsible for the care and well-being of a 3-year-old juvenile in the vehicle,” was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Genasea Portillo was arrested on suspicion of charges related to causing bodily injury while DUI and child abuse, and booked at the Central Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
