Joshua Tree firefighters were called to a small vegetation fire about 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff, the fire, which was in the desert north of Alta Loma and between Hillview and Sunset Roads, was burning two large piles of brush, logs, and branches. Dimoff said the area is a popular spot for campfires. Dimoff suspects that a campfire from the weekend was left unattended and the strong winds on Monday fanned embers that caught the brush piles on fire. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour as they let the fires burn themselves out.
