A SWAT team was called out to Landers Sunday night following a burglary in which a suspect barricaded himself in the house for more than five hours. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Jim Thornburg, deputies responding to a burglar alarm call in the 58600 block of Stearman Road at 5:39 p.m. found that entry had been forced into a detached garage. After an announcement asking the suspects to come out, Rheanna Rumfelt, 20, of Landers, crawled out of the entry point and was detained without incident. Rumfelt told deputies that Joshua Johnson, 33, also of Landers, was still in the garage, and that he was armed. For the next hour, deputies tried to convince Johnson to come out of the garage. When he refused, deputies called the SWAT unit in San Bernardino to assist. After being barricaded in the garage for about four hours, Johnson finally started talking to deputies for the next hour. Just as the SWAT unit finally arrived about 11 p.m., Johnson finally walked out of the garage door and gave himself up to deputies without incident. Joshua Johnson, a career criminal, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $35,000. Rheanna Rumfelt was arrested for investigation of burglary, and on two warrants for theft and being under the influence of a controlled substance and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail,. Her total bail is set at $225,000.
