The suspect in a Joshua Tree attempted murder and kidnapping was arrested after fleeing to Minnesota. On Saturday (February 11), shortly afer midnight, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call during which a woman claimed that her husband had shot her friend. The suspect in the shooting was identified as Fami Hassen, a 28 year-old from Minnesota. Deputies arrived at a property in the 7000 Block of Sierra Avenue in Joshua Tree to find only the male victim, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was immediately transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
After investigating the incident, Deputies report that Hassen followed his wife from Minnesota as she met the male victim in Joshua Tree. When Hassen found the two of them together, a confrontation occurred, and Hassen is alleged to have shot the victim. Hassen then forced his wife from the location at gunpoint, but she was able to escape and called 911.
Working with federal authorities, Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station learned that Hassen was on a flight back to his home state of Minnesota. Deputy Hospodar obtained an arrest warrant for Hassen, and Detective Ables coordinated with federal and local law enforcement in St. Paul, Minnesota, to apprehend Hassen when he landed.
Fami Hassen was arrested for suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon, and will be extradited back to California on his warrant.
