The status of a Marine involved in a shooting on the Twentynine Palms Combat Center Tuesday morning who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound is unknown. Marine officials told Z107.7 News that the shooter—who has been identified only as a male Marine—fired several shots in different directions on the base near 4th Street and Sturgis about 6:30 a.m. The Marine then moved to a remote location tucked behind a hill with no real danger to bystanders; base officials said the Marine shot himself about 8:30 a.m. The Marine was taken to a medical facility where his status remains unknown.
The suspect in a Tuesday morning shooting on board the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms is in custody. A public information officer told Z107.7 News that about 6:30 a.m., shots were fired near the water tower at 4th Street and the suspect was “cordoned off.” Then about 8:30, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound, after which, the suspect was transported to a medical facility. There are no other injuries. Z107.7 will have more information as it becomes available.
