Suspect in 2021 murder case returns to court after prosecution asked for more time

Miguel Ibarra returned to court twice last week for Disposition and Reset Hearings before Judge Sarah Oliver. Ibarra is the suspect in the 2021 murder of Jervon Winston, a resident of Twentynine Palms. District Attorney Jason Gueltzow represented the prosecution in both hearings, and Attorney Antonio Bestard represented Ibarra, who was in custody.
After the first hearing on Wednesday was continued, Bestard told Judge Oliver on Friday morning that the prosecution wanted additional information from the Ibarra family regarding the case. He requested a two-week continuance, and Judge Oliver scheduled a Disposition and Reset Hearing for October 1.
On October 5, 2021, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies issued a missing persons report for Winston; his remains were located four days later in a remote location in Wonder Valley. Law enforcement identified Michael Isaacs and Damien Wilkerson as accessories to the murder; both pleaded guilty and have since been released following completion of their prison sentences. In March 2022, Ibarra was identified as the murder suspect, taken into custody, and pleaded “Not Guilty.”
Miguel Ibarra is charged with murder, with enhancements related to using a firearm and having prior felony convictions. He is currently held at the West Valley Detention Center on $2,000,000 bail.
