We have limited information about a man who was detained last night after he set a shed on fire in Yucca Mesa. County Fire Battalion Chief Scott Tuttle said firefighters from Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms, and Calfire were called to the 2800 block of Keeler Avenue for a shed on fire. Tuttle said the shed was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived, but he added they had to stand by until deputies arrived due to possible threats from the arsonist. A witness said Justin Mason, 18, had deliberately set the shed ablaze and she was afraid to come out of her house because Mason had previously threatened her with a gun. The flames spread to the surrounding vegetation and burned about one and a half acres, as well as damaged a water tank and about 15 Joshua trees before firefighters could put it out. Justin Mason was arrested for investigation of arson, booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
