Nearly a decade in the making, tomorrow’s 10 a.m. meeting of the County Board of Supervisors in San Bernardino looks to be the final showdown in a battle between the people of Joshua Tree and developers of the planned Alta Mira gated housing project next to Friendly Hills Elementary School.
Assignment reporter Mike Lipsitz has details…
In April, the County Planning Commission approved the 248-unit development with the Basin’s own commissioner, Paul Smith, casting the lone opposing vote. Opponents appealed the decision, claiming county planners had overlooked the Joshua Tree Community Plan as well as elements of the development code. The appellants have also cited flaws in the developer’s studies on traffic flow, drainage, desert tortoise, and other issues. So tomorrow, the appellants will briefly state their case, county planners will defend their actions, the public will have an opportunity to comment, and then the board is expected to make a final determination.
Tomorrow’s meeting, and every Board of Supervisor’s meeting, streams online and to the first floor teleconferencing room in the County Government Center on White Feather Road where public comment can be made via live video link.
