3rd District County Supervisor Dawn Rowe was the guest on last Friday’s (December 3) Up-Close Show, where she discussed how the county is handling illegal marijuana grows, short-term vacation rentals, and the possibility of Joshua Tree becoming a city. Reporter Jef Harmatz recaps the interview.
Rowe addressed some of the biggest issues facing the Morongo Basin, including recent attempts to end illegal grows by strengthening the county’s ability to enforce residential code and dramatically increasing fines that can be levied against property owners. She also spoke about how the county is working to regulate short-term vacation rentals. She described her intention to revise county rental ordinances
“That ordinance isn’t necessarily without its flaws, and so we are bringing that back. My hope and pressure is on land use services to do that in January and take it to the Planning Commission.” – Supervisor Rowe
Rowe fielded questions about the possible incorporation of Joshua Tree as its own town, suggesting that the creation of Community Services District, similar to what is in place in Morongo Valley, would be the first step towards self-governance.
