The Board of Supervisors approved a request from Supervisor Dawn Rowe for $200,000 in funding for the Morongo Basin no-kill animal shelter. The funds assist with upgrading and replacing outdated adoption and shelter facilities in Joshua Tree. Founded in 1972, the Morongo Basin Humane Society operates the region’s only no-kill animal shelter.

Supervisor Rowe said, “These much-needed resources will help the Humane Society continue to operate the Morongo Basin’s no-kill shelter. Keeping this shelter operational will alleviate overcrowding at other shelters, including county owned shelters.”

Morongo Basin Humane Society President Mimi Mitz said, “We’re thrilled to receive this generous donation which will be a huge boost to our fundraising efforts to build a new no-kill shelter and animal adoption complex.”
