Third District County Supervisor James Ramos responded to a story on Z107.7 News yesterday in which we questioned why the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council, appointed to advise him on local concerns, used their time to comment and vote on a project way out of their jurisdiction. The MAC voted unanimously Monday to endorse a letter from a local environmental organization opposing a proposed solar power plant near Baker. Ramos said that the vote was simply support for the letter and not in opposition to the project itself, he explained, “The Morongo Basin MAC was established as an avenue where residents can voice their concerns. The MAC’s approval of the Morongo Basin Conservation Association’s letter was in support of the concerns brought up by the local organization and not a formal vote in favor or against the Soda Mountain project.” Ramos said each supervisor will receive a copy of the letter and will take it into consideration when the item is heard by the board at the end of August.
