SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS SAYS NEW SAFETY FEATURES IN PLACE

With summer break now over and students returning to school, the Morongo Unified School District has issued an announcement on student safety. In Part 1 of this 2-part story, Morongo Unified School District Superintendent Tom Baumgarten outlines some of the improvements that the school district has made in the ongoing pursuit of student safety…

Our most precious resource is our future leaders. They’re our students, and they’re on their way back to school this year. The Morongo Unified School District has paved the way for their success with a number of new safety services. There are several new “Safe Route to School” paths in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms with support from the cities and local Rotarians. The school district has cameras on every school campus with 40 new cameras being installed across district campuses to help with student safety. We have resource officers serving our local schools to help with student safety as well. This year, the school district also has a grant with a probation office to keep at-risk students in school and help them keep focused on education.

In Part 2 of this story, Baumgarten will review what District parents and Morongo Basin motorists can do to help improve the safety of students this year.
