We have more information about the crash Sunday in Twentynine Palms that injured two people. Just after midnight, a deputy on patrol saw two vehicles in a road race speeding southbound on Adobe Road. The deputy made a U-turn to try to catch up to the vehicles. As the deputy approached Calle Todd, the deputy saw only one set of brake lights and a large amount of debris in the road. The driver of a Nissan 350Z had lost control and collided with a palm tree and rolled several hundred feet. As the deputy approached the car, the driver, identified only as James Walker, got out of the car and was irate that he had crashed his car. His passenger, who was not identified, was unconscious inside the car. The deputy said Walker refused to calm down, and the deputy—with the help of several Marines who witnessed Walker charging the deputy—ended up taking Walker to the ground and putting him in handcuffs. The driver of the other car allegedly admitted to the deputy that they all knew each other and were racing each other. The other driver was cited for speed racing Walker’s case will be sent to the district attorney’s office for review. Two men were transported to hospitals.
