STUDENTS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

Each spring season the United States Congress holds an art competition for high school students. The winning works from each district will be showcased at a special exhibit in the U.S. Capitol building. Reporter Jef Harmatz has details on how Morongo Basin high schoolers can submit their work for consideration.

Student artists are invited to submit paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography, as long as the piece is an original work. All work must be less than 28 by 28 inches, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. The Morongo Unified School District is part of California’s 8th congressional district, represented by Congressman Jay Obernolte, who expressed enthusiasm in seeing submissions from students. High-resolution photos of the artwork, along with an information and release form are due by May 5 at 5 p.m. and can be submitted to the congressman’s office via a link in this story on z1077fm.com

Submissions can be emailed to [email protected]. For additional information, competition rules, and forms, visit Rep. Obernolte’s website at https://obernolte.house.gov/services/art-competition. You can also reach Rep. Obernolte’s office with questions at (760) 247-1815.
