Stolen shipping container and motorcycle recovered in Wonder Valley, suspect arrested

A stolen Ducati motorcycle and a stolen shipping container were recovered on Valentine’s Day (2/14), and the suspect in the theft is a felon suspected to be in possession of a cache of ammunition in Wonder Valley.

On Saturday (February 14) at around 2:15 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of grand theft near Cactus Jack Road and Two Mile Road in Wonder Valley. The victim reported that his blue, 40-foot storage container had been stolen within the past few weeks and said that several personal items were inside the container with an estimated value of approximately $5,400.

The Sheriff’s investigation led to a residence in the 6200 block of Cactus Jack Avenue where deputies observed three storage containers, one of which was positively identified by the victim as the stolen 40-foot container.

Deputies returned to the property on Sunday (February 15) with a search warrant. They detained a suspect, Kevin Gilbert, a 35 year-old resident of Wonder Valley. The victim positively identified the shipping container. Deputies also said they located a Ducati motorcycle that had been reported stolen from Lancaster in January of 2024. They say they recovered approximately 101 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition from Gilbert’s possessions. Felons are prohibited from possessing any ammunition.

Kevin Gilbert was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, receiving stolen property, and being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and has been released on bail.
