THE STATUS ON MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN THE MORONGO BASIN

Clients of Morongo Basin Mental Health Services, which is scheduled to close at the end of June, have been anxious about the future availability of such services locally, despite assurances from San Bernardino County. Dan Stork has some preliminary information from the county on these concerns…

We asked Molly Wiltshire, a staffer in the office of Third District Supervisor James Ramos, how the County is progressing on filling the void that will open up locally when Morongo Basin Mental Health closes down on June 30. She told us that Supervisor Ramos met recently with Casonya Thomas, the Director of the department of Behavioral Health for San Bernardino County, to discuss the issue. He learned that the $7 million in funding for mental health services in the Morongo Basin that comes through the County will continue. He was also told that some replacement service providers are already “in place” — meaning that that they are ready and will to take over from the current organization on July 1.
