The state of California released standardized testing scores for our local school district. Reporter David Haldane says it was good news and bad news…
For the Morongo Unified School District, there’s good news and bad news in this week’s release of statewide test scores in math and English.
The good news is that, overall, local students did better than they did last year in English. The bad news: their scores are still below state averages in both subjects, though not by much.
The most dramatic change occurred in fourth grade math where the percentage of local students either meeting or exceeding state standards dropped by eleven percentage points, from 45 to 34. On the plus side, those percentages in English improved significantly at every grade level except one, which stayed the same.
Bottom line: 46 percent of the Morongo students met or exceeded standards in English, compared to 49 percent statewide. The gap in math was slightly larger with 32 percent of the local students meeting or exceeding standards compared to 37 percent statewide.
