Morongo Basin voters will have a long list of candidates to consider when they go to the polls for the statewide primary election on June 5. There will be no fewer than 27 candidates just for governor. And while races closer to home look to be less crowded, only the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party, will go on to the November general election. For congress, incumbent Paul Cook will face fellow Republican Tim Donnelly, and three Democrats: Ronald Odonnell, Rita Ramirez, and Marge Doyle. For the 42 nd State Assembly Seat, incumbent Chad Mayes will face fellow Republicans Gary Jeandron and Andrew Kotyuk, Green Party Carol Bouldin, and Democrat Deniantionette Mazingo. Three candidates will vie for termed out Jean Fuller’s state Senate seat; they are Democrat Ruth Musser-Lopez, and Republicans Shannon Grove and Gregory Tatum. Incumbent Ted Alejandre will run unopposed for County School Superintendent, as will Assessor/Recorder Bob Dutton, and Sheriff/Coroner John McMahon. District Attorney Mike Ramos will face challenger Jason Anderson; and Auditor-Controller/Tax Collector Oscar Valdez will face challenger Ensen Mason.
