STATE SUPREME COURT DENIES COUNTY LAWSUIT TO OVERTURN STAY-AT-HOME ORDER

San Bernardino County’s lawsuit against the state to repeal the stay-at-home order, was denied 5-0 by the California Supreme Court Wednesday. Two justices recused themselves from the decision. The county filed a lawsuit December 14 arguing that the state’s stay-at-home order—which banned all gatherings except protests and church gatherings, closed many businesses, and halted outdoor dining at restaurants—was illegal and an abuse of power. The county had received support from Yucaipa, Chino Hills, and, most recently, Rancho Cucamonga. The justices did not give an opinion for why they did not grant the county’s petition.
