The state senator who represents the Morongo Basin is under fire. California Senate Minority Leader Shannon Grove spoke at length at a church event Sunday in front of thousands of people despite being under quarantine orders. Grove applied for a permit for a “Let Us Worship” rally in front of the state capitol in Sacramento; the permit required masks and social distancing.
The California Highway Patrol estimated three times as many people attended as the 1,000 people that were permitted, and videos showed few masks and little social distancing. Grove was supposed to be in quarantine until Thursday, September 10, because she had been in close contact with a senator who was diagnosed with COVID-19 August 26. State health officials are warning that the event could be a mass coronavirus outbreak. Senator Grove’s office did not respond to a request for a comment from Z107.7 News.
