STATE OFFERS A TIP LINE FOR ILLEGAL MARIJUANA GROWS

California’s Department of Food and Agriculture’s CalCannabis Division regulates pot growers statewide. It operates a toll-free hotline for the public to report suspected illegal grower activity and it maintains an arsenal of weapons to fight it. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us where to call and what they can do about it…

833-WEED-TIP, 833-933-3847, that’s 833 W-E-E-D TIP, is a state-operated hotline for reporting illegal cannabis grow operations. Callers will need to provide an address or parcel number where illegal pot cultivation is suspected. The hotline is monitored Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Reports are documented, prioritized, and referred to county special investigators who work with code enforcement and local, state, and federal law authorities. A spokesperson from CalCannabis told Z107.7 News that only 30 complaints from San Bernardino County to 833-WEED-TIP have been received this year. Of those the agency has participated in multiple search warrants, and is pursuing administrative and civil penalties which can total up to $30,000 per violation daily.
