STATE ISSUES EARLY YOUTH AND SCHOOL-BASED SPORTS GUIDELINES

The California Department of Public Health updated guidelines about the return of youth and school-based sports for coaches and athletic directors yesterday. While cautioning that approval from a local health officer will be needed, the department outlined familiar modifications for youth and school-based sports to resume. The guidelines prohibit games from being played at this time but approved of physical conditioning and skill training with six feet of social distancing between participants. The state recommends athletes be placed in pre-determined pods and that activities be held outside if possible. Masks should be worn if the workouts are held indoors.
