STATE ASSEMBLYMAN CHAD MAYES WILL NOT SEEK REELECTION

Assemblyman Chad Mayes of Yucca Valley announced Monday he will not seek reelection to the 42nd District seat that currently represents the Morongo Basin, San Gorgonio Pass Area and parts of the Coachella Valley. Mayes made the announcement Monday, stating he will not seek a fifth term. Mayes, who has held his seat since 2014, was initially elected as a Republican, but ran as an independent in 2020. he said in a twitter post, “While my time in the Assembly will soon end – let me be clear – my work is not yet done.  I will continue the fight towards restoring truth, honor, and civility in our politics.” Mayes did not cite any particular reason for leaving but denounced partisan politics saying, “Over the last 7 years, I have seen first-hand the dangers of partisan politics. Blind faith to political teams has created a toxic tribalism that is tearing families, friendships, communities, and this country apart.” Mayes is a Yucca Valley native who started his political career with the Yucca Valley Town Council.
