The Morongo Basin has some of the darkest skies, and the Starry Nights Festival Saturday, September 19, takes full advantage of the billions of stars on view. The day begins with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11, put on by the Yucca Mesa science camp. The Starry Nights Festival runs from noon to midnight. The event includes renowned guest speakers who will discuss UFOs, astrology, cosmology, telescope building, and more. There will also be raffles and vendors. The movie “City Dark” will be shown after dark. A star party with live images of planets, the Milky Way, supernovas, and more heavenly bodies will be projected on screens. Telescopes are available for public viewing, or bring your own. Free camping is available Saturday night. Call Rick Sayers at 760-574-6598 to reserve your space. The festival will be held at the Yucca Mesa Community Center, 3133 Balsa Avenue, in Yucca Valley.
