Get ready to order that triple venti, half-sweet, non-fat, caramel macchiato in downtown Twentynine Palms this year. Starbucks is coming. Reporter Heather Clisby has an update…
Caffeine junkies stand by; Twentynine Palms City Manager Frank Luckino confirms that the famed coffee chain will arrive soon at the corner of Highway 62 and Adobe Road.
Fountainhead Development, the landlord and developer for the chain, is in the process of buying the corner property from the city. Bank of America will then remove the freestanding ATMs currently on the property by the end of January.
Next, the city will widen the turning radius for that corner – a determination and decision that was made by the Planning Commission prior to the Starbucks plan and the chains’ development plans allow for that alteration – 22 feet on Adobe Road and 10 feet on Highway 62. New traffic poles for that corner are set to arrive January 25 and roadway construction will begin soon after.
Once this city has completed their pre-planned construction, Starbucks can begin building their 1,800 square-foot store—including drive-thru—in March or April. Construction will take approximately 90 days. Luckino says the goal is to have the lattes flowing by mid- to late-2019.
