A woman who was arrested 10 days ago for squatting in an abandoned cabin was arrested again Sunday. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant James Porter, Shashatia Guthridge, 36, was arrested January 10 on suspicion of trespassing after she was found living in a cabin in the 71300 block of Winters Road in Twentynine Palms. Guthridge claimed she owned the cabin, but the cabin’s owner arrived with documentation to prove that Guthridge was not the owner. On Saturday, January 18, the cabin’s owner called the Sheriff’s Department again to report that Guthridge was again living in the cabin. When the deputy arrived, Guthridge showed him paperwork which she said showed she was the owner. The deputy—who was the same deputy who arrested Guthridge earlier for squatting—determined the paperwork was forged. Shashatia Guthridge was arrested for investigation of grand theft of real estate, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $50,000.
