The Mojave Desert Land Trust hosts a day of activities at a Spring Open House on Saturday, April 16, at the organization’s headquarters across the highway from Joshua Tree Memorial Park (cemetery) in Joshua Tree. The event opens at 10 a.m. with a keynote speaker and an address about what the nation’s public lands mean to diverse communities. A panel discussion with environmental and community leaders follows the keynote. Lunch follows the panel discussion starting at noon. A $10 donation is suggested. There will be live entertainment by Joe City Garcia, and mingling around map and information stations of the Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains national monuments. Experts on the new monuments will be on hand to answer questions and help with sign-ups for tours to the newly protected places. The event is free. RSVP by email to [email protected] or call 760-366-5440.
