A man was critically injured Wednesday afternoon following a roll-over crash in Joshua Tree. According to CHP officer Simon Miller, at about 1:50 p.m., Willie Gamble, 22, of Twentynine Palms, was driving his 2011 Dodge westbound on the highway at what witnesses said was a very high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Gamble lost control of his car just west of Olympic Road, left the roadway, and overturned on the south side of the highway. Gamble was unconscious at the scene. Emergency crews extricated Gamble from his vehicle and took him to the Yucca Valley airport where he was flown by Mercy Air to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
