Regimental Combat Team-7 from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base deployed to Helmand Province in Afghanistan last October and is now half-way through its deployment. In our weekly segment profiling Marines, managing editor Tami Roleff introduces Lance Corporal Kyle Ford with Regimental Combat Team-7, who is enjoying his deployment to Afghanistan…
Lance Corporal Kyle Ford, 21, couldn’t wait to join the Marines, but he slightly delayed his entry into the Marine Corps. “I did a semester of college, which I promised my parents I would do. I always wanted to join the Marine Corps, so after trying college out for a semester, I went ahead and talked to a recruiter.” He’s been a Marine, working as a generator mechanic, for 2 ½ years now, and loves it. “Every day is a new thing. It’s very rare when one generator has the same problem as another generator, so every day I learn something new.” When Ford found out he was deploying to Afghanistan with Regimental Combat Team-7, he was excited to go. “I was actually pretty excited. It’s what I wanted to do when I signed up, That was the one thing I wanted, to go over and serve my country. So when I found out I had the opportunity to go, I was pretty happy. It’s the reason why you join, that’s why you’re a Marine. Every Marine wants to deploy; every Marine wants to get the opportunity to come over.”
