With the state slowly starting to reopen, some high school sports are getting the green light. Now allowed to practice with full contact and compete in just a few weeks, both Yucca Valley High School and Twentynine Palms High School football teams are back on the field. Reporter Cassidy Taylor stopped by a Wildcat football practice last week and files this report…
“So now that we all get the chance to have this season, it’s just great.” – Joshua Herne
“It’s just most exciting because I’m a senior, I’ve always looked forward to my senior year” – Chris Pacheco
Wildcat seniors Joshua Herne and Chris Pacheco are happy to be back on the field, and this season.
“We’re working hard. And it’s just a nice environment to be out there, we have really nice energy. And we’re just excited to get the season going.”
For coach TJ Stanford, being back on the field is great, and he looks forward to finally getting some games going.
“Mainly for the seniors this year who haven’t been able to have a real season, they’re going to get to play, you know, four games and we’re looking forward to April 9, the Battle of the bell here at Twentynine Palms.”
During practice, strict COVID protocols are in place as the team follows both CDC and school district guidelines.
