Yucca Valley High School is welcoming a number of new teachers to its staff for the 2018-2019 academic year. With a list of these new staff members is reporter Andrew Dieleman…
New additions to the Yucca Valley High School staff include coach Chris Fore joining the administrative staff. Fore, a southern California veteran coach and athletic director, teaches students with disabilities and has recently served as the School Site Council Chairperson at Sultana High School in Hesperia. The president of the California Coaches Association, Fore adds a wealth of experience in student activities and athletics. He brings a fresh and calm eye to student discipline and campus safety.
Joining Bill Barrett, Krista Wargo and Crystal Mason teaching our students the intricacies of the arts is master’s degree-wielding talent, Abbey Sarver. Sarver has been substitute teaching in the Morongo Unified School District as of late. She brings her creative talents to her students through drawing and studio art. Her advanced degree in fine arts provides our students countless possibilities for learning.
Joining the English Department at YVHS are two outstanding teachers that bring skills beyond belief to the Language Arts staff. Michael Fontana will be joining the team at YVHS after a short stint away from the teaching ranks in the MUSD. Fontana will teach freshmen English and advise the yearbook production staff. His experience as a journalist and history advising nationally award-winning yearbooks should prove to be a true asset to our students.
Samone Reiberger also joins the English department at YVHS this year. Her experience in some of the most challenging schools in the country should prove as a huge benefit to our students. Currently a graduate student at USC, Reiberger brings cutting-edge instructional practices and heartfelt, supportive concern to her students.
Daniel Stevens brings his calculation skills to the mathematics department. A Yucca Valley High School graduate, Daniel returns to the Basin after several years teaching overseas. His love of the Morongo Basin has brought him home to serve our current Trojan students from his most recent post in Abu Dhabi.
Allison Fisher takes the reins alongside veteran YVHS chemistry teacher Larry Thomas. Fisher possesses a PhD in chemistry and more than 20 years of experience as a scientist in the field. With a passion for the desert and horses, Fisher now wants to call the Morongo Basin home. Her experience as a scientist in industry, her knowledge of the environment and alternative energy can provide our students with practical insight and application of principles of the chemical world.
JD Thompson joins the social science department. Taking charge of the Trojan football program, Thompson will be teaching introductory courses in psychology and sociology. His master’s degree in counseling allows a future opportunity for advanced courses not currently offered at Yucca Valley High School.
Ewalani Taijeron joins the Regional Occupation and Career Technical Education programs. She takes the helm of the Culinary Arts and Management program. This two-tiered program sets our culinary artists up for a future in the food world. Who knows, maybe Yucca Valley High School has the next Food Network Star.
