Though most of the snow has melted here in the Morongo Basin, California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino County yesterday (March 2) related to the heavy snowfall that has dramatically impacted communities in the San Bernardino Mountain range.

County officials declared a local state of emergency on Monday (February 27), after a weekend of heavy snow left roads closed, supplies dwindling and some areas without electricity.. Another round of heavy snowfall on Wednesday (March 1) brought some snow totals to more than 10 ft, which complicated efforts to clear roads, deliver groceries and gasoline, and provide medical assistance to those in need.

In an announcement, Governor Newsom said, “California’s Office of Emergency Services is working  with Caltrans and San Bernardino County officials to bring in additional snow plows as well as road crews, and personnel from CAL FIRE and the California National Guard are readied to support operations”

This weekend’s forecast sees clear skies and warming temperatures.
