Firefighters from Joshua Tree National Park, the Bureau of Land Management, and Riverside County went looking for a fire in the park Tuesday morning, but couldn’t find it. Many residents reported seeing and smelling smoke blowing into the Morongo Basin from the park; Park Superintendent David Smith said that the fire was somewhere in the Riverside County part of the park. However, despite their best efforts, the source of the fire remains a mystery. Smith added that the area where the fire is believed to have originated was in a low-vegetation area, so there wasn’t a lot of fuel for it to burn.
